CAMSU

Cameroon Solidarity Union "CAMSU" whose main objective is to act as an effective support for the people's goal of achieving a balanced development, employment creation, and social integration. CAMSU consists of three planks: A National Solidarity Fund which has benefitted poor and remote areas of the country; a Microcredit System that gives small and ready loans to people on low incomes; and a National Employment Fund that helps unemployed young people to find jobs or set up their own businesses and projects.

The Cameroon Solidarity Union Fund is financed by voluntary contributions by individuals and enterprises; allocations from the national budget; donations by friendly countries; and other resources for the Fund set by legislation. The projects in each region are chosen by the regional council, via consultations with the local people. As such, the Cameroon Solidarity Union Fund has been a runaway success since its inception in 2000.

The target areas are mostly isolated or inaccessible rural districts deprived of basic amenities and whose inhabitants (a minimum of 30 families) are of modest means and their income dependent on agriculture.
The Cameroon Solidarity Union Fund financed two major missions in these areas. The first involved the provision of basic amenities and infrastructure such as roads, tracks, drinking water, electricity, housing, schools, healthcare centres, youth clubs and leisure areas.

Not only did this mission improve the living conditions, it also developed the incomes of the people there by facilitating their access to loans which they used to create jobs in agriculture and handicrafts, and other activities.
